A dark bay quarter horse could be seen running barrels, the horses rider was nineteen year old Derrick Furlong. He was pretty well known around the stables since he spent hours everyday there.
His horse slowed to a walk after finishing the corse. Derrick shook his head making his wind blown hair fall back into place scattered over his forehead. "Good boy, Maverick" He said rubbing the equine's well groomed neck rustling his black mane as he began to cool out by walking around the arena. The horse had a red saddle pad that sat neatly under the worn out dark brown saddle with a matching bridle.
The teenager in the saddle was wearing dark washed jeans with a red t-shirt that was almost all the way covered by a dark denim jacket around his neck was his dorm key and a dog tag on the same chain. On his feet where a pair of brown riding boots, not the type of boots a jumper would wear, they looked more like work boots.
It was a cool Saturday morning, so there wasn't many people out riding today if any, He liked riding alone he could use the hole arena and not have to worry about whatever everyone else was doing. The jumps that normally filled the ring where push back, lining the walls and three barrels where set up using most of the riding space, he got yelled at a lot for this since as of now he was the only western rider so more people wanted to use the jumps then the barrels.

The girl was at the barn for some reason unknown to her. She didn't have a horse but it looked fun to her so she figured she'd try it. All she had to do was to learn to ride. Clad in straight leg jeans, acutal riding boots and an old t-shirt she sure didn't look like the IT girl she was. That was fine with her. She didn't always have to be perfect.
Slowly she moved through the stables just checking out the area. With a smile she headed for the outside. Maybe she could meet a rider or something. She wandered through the rings stopping and glancing at them. There weren't many people there. She stopped at one that had a boy riding around what looked like barrels.
She leaned againist the fence wondering what she should do. In the end she decided just to watch. Keeping silent she watched him wondering what it would be like to try that. A smile was on her face. She really wanted to learn. Her hand went up to her ponytail as she fiddled with the hair there. She bit her lip uncertain if it was okay if she was there.

Derrick noticed a girl who looked about him age just standing against the fence, He trotted his horse over. “Mornin’” He said greeting the girl, it was strange to see someone new around the stables. His icy blue eyes scanned the girl. “I’m Derrick” He said with a smile. “Oh, And this is Maverick” He said running a hand over the horses neck as it’s tail flicked a few flies away from it’s legs.
People said he spent to much time at the barn, but he didn’t think it would be possible to spend to much time with Maverick. “Do you have a horse?” He asked brushing a bit of hair away from his eyes. “Or are you just bored?” He added, a few people just showed up to look at the horses, since a lot of people didn’t have one for themselves.
[Sorry it's short... I got to go...]

Her eyes were fixxed on the horse. She watched fasicnated by its movements. Oh yeah she wanted to learn how to ride. It looked like a lot of fun. Her mind was so focused on her thoughts she wasn't ready for the boy to come over. She jumped when he spoke.
"hi," she said, ducking her head in embarassment. Nodding as he spoke, she took in all the information he was giving her. His name was Derrick and his horse Maverick. Right now it was her turn. "I'm Desiree," she said with a shy smile. She hadn't made that much progress ovbiously.
She listened to his questions. And thought about how to answer this. "No I don't have a horse, but I want to learn to ride," she answered, not sure if that was understandable. She wasn't bored just curious.

He smiled "Nice to meet you Desiree" He had never not known how to ride, his had been around horses all of his life. "I see" he said, "I could teach you... If you wanted." He added shrugging, He had taken the time to teach his little sisters to ride, with the help of his father... But it shouldn't be that hard.
Mavericks' stood quietly, he was a very good horse. Even though he could get hyper before a barrel run or when he knew they where gonna' rope some cattle. Maverick wasn't to tall, but not to short. With a muscular build and stocky legs he was a perfect rodeo horse, unlike most of the tall horses with long thin legs that where kept at the stables.
