Jack's day had crawled by. Spanish verbs had disagreed with him and History was as dull as ever with his monotonous teacher. But English-- he had actually been looking forward to English! He would get to pass notes with Sophie. This might just be entertaining!
When he walked in, he made sure to grab a seat close to her. It was a little ways behind her. It would be tough to pass the notes; he'd have to pass them through other people, who might interfere. He was interested to see how many people would join in their notes. He hoped none of the people Sophie called 'Smartie People' were sitting in betweent him and her. They might snatch up the note and stop it.
Sophie,
hey, girl. how was your history class? how's your day been going?
- Jack
He poked the blonde boy in front of him and gave him the paper, pointing to Sophie. Then he relaxed and watched the back of Sophie's blonde hair while the teacher talked.

Sliding into her seat moments before the bell rang, she dropped her bag by the side of the desk. Pulling her hair to one side of her neck, she grabbed her notebook and pen and scribbled her pen over the pages, making it look as she was copying down notes.
She felt a poke in her bag and turned. The guy behind her was holding a piece of paper and was pointing towards Jack. "Thanks," She whispered quickly before turning back around.
Jack,
history was as boring as ever. the day's been basically the usual, boring and full of homework. how's your day been? --sophie
She turned quickly to the blond kid and motioned to hand the note to Jack. When it was safely in his hands, she turned back to the front of the classroom to make it look as if she was paying attention. She shrugged off her jacket; it was unusually warm in the classroom today.

Jack watched a piece of paper slide on the floor from under the desk in front of him to under his desk by way of the blonde kid's foot. He slouched down, hid behind his notebook, and picked it up. Then he straightened up quickly. The teacher was pointing to the words Indirect Object on the board. Jack read the note.
Sophie --
Ooh, I'm sorry about that. But I know what you mean. I wasn't expecting much different of an answer. Yeah, History was boring, and Spanish was really hard. Especially because, I kept thinking about passing notes with you looking forward to when school gets out. Only one. more. period. And I think I can last. I really like your handwriting.
-- Jack
He passed the note up again and tuned in momentarily to the teacher.

She yawned as the teacher said something about Direct and Indirect Objects. She tapped her pen against her notebook, before doing a quick doodle of her old puppy. She left Sasha behind when she left for Dayton, but recently got a picture of her from her dad.
She was interrupted of her daydream of Hawaii from the same jabbing in the back. She pretended to yawn, grabbing the note and mouthing, "thanks" to him. She slid her notebook on her lap before reading the note.
Jack-
thanks. no other answer seemed to fit. history could put my dog to sleep. only one more boring class to go. let's hope so. thanks ^_^
--sophie
She handed the note to the guy in back of her before turning back around, racing her pen across the paper. Hoping the teacher wouldn't catch the note, she wrote down some of the notes to make it seem like she was paying attention if the teacher came around for a random notebook check.

Jack drew a quick sentence diagram quickly, circling the indirect object on the tree of lines and words, just in case the teacher started walking around the classroom, breathing down their necks. He hated when teachers did that. He chuckled softly when the note reached him again. This teacher really was blind!
Sophie--
your dog must usually be a very hyper dog? well, that's not surprising, though. I kind of wish something new would happen to me. cause the same old keeps happening. yes, let's hope I can last. so... why did you come to Dayton?
- jack
He passed the note back and continued to take notes. He was surprised at how much time had passed when he glanced at the clock. This was going well.

Feeling safe enough to stop with her "note writing", she put her pen down. Her hand was, as usual, covered in ink on the side. The perks of being a lefty.
Feeling the usual poke, she was already half turned around as the note reached her. She held it in her palm until the teacher had turned back to the board before taking a look at it.She felt a sinking feeling in her stomach as she read the last line of the note. She decided to fake it, for now, and tell another day.
Jack--
yes, Sasha is extremely hyper. It's like she has puppy sugar rush all the time. same here. all my life is get up, eat, breathe, go to school, sleep. and some stuff in between. it would be veery bad if a student didn't last through a class. i came to Dayton for a better education. it seemed like a great school when i came to the area. i wanted to go here, so my parents let me go here. why'd you come to Dayton?
--sophie Satisfied, she gave it back to the guy and picked up her pen. Glancing at the book, she began to actually copy the page they were supposed to copy.

Jack got the note and read it, pleased that the conversation was going places. Too bad Jack couldn't use the same old better-education excuse. Sophie knew him well enough to know that education wasn't exactly one of Jack's priorities. He'd just have to steer the talk away from why he came here.
sophie--
this teacher is so blind. my family needed... someplace new to live; somewhere fresh. i can't say i've ever seen a student not last a class. i wonder what would happen? so, who have you been hanging out with since you came?
-- jack
He wasn't really sure where the last sentence was going, but he had already sent the note. Maybe it was a way of asking if she was close to any guys? He was always a very forward person, but today, well, he wasn't sure why this was different. He kind of felt like he didn't want to offend Sophie or something by asking her if she was going out with a guy when they had hardly met. But Jack had asked girls out in their first conversation before. Why should this be any different?
He wasn't sure he wanted to ask her out or anything, but he'd like to get to know her better. If something did happen between the two of them, it'd be nice if they were very close. Jack wondered what Brendon would say about this as he returned to his notes.

When Sophie was sure the teacher was completely turned away, she reached into her purse and pulled out a stick of gum. Unraveling it, she popped it into her mouth before sliding the wrapper into her pocket.
Jack-
extremely. it's still good, because then we have a less chance of being caught passing notes. i can't say i have either. what would happen is they'd do a full investigation on how it happened, interview the teacher and students, and ban classes while they search. "they" would be random people, orr whoever. that's probably never going to happen, but people are allowed to dream. not many people. just talkin to my BFF Chase Parker. do you know him? and i managed to make an enemy out of Sam Gryphon. and i met you, unless you don't count. --sophie
She folded the note in her hand before the teacher sat at her desk. They were supposed to copy the board and then do an exercise. Or something like that. She hadn't been paying attention the whole time. Slipping it back to the person behind her, she picked up her pen before copying notes. Who would know when the teacher went around to check their notebooks?

Jack was actually doing his work as a way to pass the time before getting the note. He unfolded it and read it. Then he wrote.
sophie, if an investigation is what it takes to get some classes off, then i'd love that! haha. yeah, i know Chase Parker. i'm best friends with him, too; we hang out a lot. i can't say i've met Sam. what is Sam like? i think i count. i hope i count. - jack
He folded the note and passed it back up to Sophie. Then he settled back into the notes he was taking while he waited.

Sophie, as she had rushed through the assignment, which proved to be very easy, was bored out of her mind. When she looked at the clock, they still had time for teh assignment to be finished. Alot of time.
She sighed, slightly startled this time by the jabbing in her back. She quickly retrieved the note, and placed it onto her notebeook(which lay on her lap) to read it and reply.
Jack- i would too. i haven't spoke to Sam a whole lot, so i'm not sure what she's like. so you'll have to find out for yourself. ok, you count. i've met 3 people so far. what an accomplishment. --sophie
She handed the note back to the person behind her, and leaned over and started doodling again. This time it was of a horse performing a dressage move. She didn't know what she'd draw until it got on the paper.

Jack retrieved the note and read it, pleased to have something to do.
sophie, i'm sure you'll meet more people quickly. and i really think you'll make loads of friends because you're really sweet and nice, so there won't be a problem there. do you miss home a lot? - jack
He passed the note forward and actually returned to work on his assignment.

Seeing as the bell was far from ringing, the assignment for most was far from done, she decided to get some color into her drawing. Pulling out multicolored pens, she decided to make it a bay horse with a small snip and one stocking. She was working on the details of the rider when a note was again passed to her.
Jack- aw,thanks. yea, i miss home alot. how about you? --sophie
Handing the note back, she decided on a female rider, in tall gleaming boots and a tailored jacket, with spotless white riding pants. All in all, the rider looked extremely sophisticated. The horse looked professional.

Jack noticed Sophie had pulled out colored pencils. He watched her sunny hair get poked by the kid behind her and waited for her to reply to his note. When she did, and he read it, he sighed. He did miss home, more than he could say. He missed the way life used to be, where he could really slack off without his dad getting on his back about it. He missed his friends and all the people he hung out with with all the time. He missed the girls he had dated and the guys he played sports with.
Most of all, he missed his mom. She had reopened a wound he perferred to heal, and now it was starting to bleed again. But he didn't want anyone knowing he was in pain, still, inside. The other family members looked like they had started to move on, but he still missed her too much to move on. He had to maintain his strong appearance on the outside, though.
sophie- yeah, i miss my friends. a ton. what are you drawing? - jack
Satisfied with the way he had changed the topic of the discussion, he went back to work after passing the note up. The blonde kid in front of him was looking annoyed by now, but he'd have to suck it up.

Biting her lip, she drew a neat as possible squared border around the drawing. It was finished, as far what she could do with the supplies she had, and was thinking of a name when the note came to her again.
Jack-
Random horse doodle. ugh. boring class.
--sophie
Handing the note back, the blond guy had a look of disapproval on his face. She rolled her eyes as she turned back around, and the perfect name hit her. Midnight's Memory. Her pen(sparkly pink) flowed across the page in loopy script. Adding a few yellow stars and back to pink for the hearts, she finished her margin doodle.

Jack had his hand out for the note, and by this time, the blonde boy was glaring at him as he delivered the note.
sophie,
yeah, this is a super boring class, but i wasn't expecting much otherwise. you like horses?
- jack
The boy's lips were pursed tightly when he passed the note this time, but he said nothing. After all, no one wanted to offend Jack by alerting the teacher to his activities. People generally didn't want to get on his bad side.
